As a Medical Provider, you will deliver essential care, guide medical volunteers, and support clinical operations in underserved communities. This role offers a unique opportunity to grow your clinical expertise, contribute to meaningful change, and make a positive impact on people’s lives.
Responsibilities
- Direct patient care: Provide comprehensive care to patients with diverse health needs, encompassing both primary and emergency care. Strive to deliver safe, high-quality care while adapting to a resource-limited environment with reduced referral options.
- Clinical oversight: Supervise and mentor medical volunteers to ensure the delivery of safe, ethical, and effective care. Support the professional development of medical students and volunteers by encouraging hands-on learning and a shared sense of responsibility.
- Cultural responsiveness: Collaborate closely with local communities, showing deep respect for their cultural practices, traditions, and beliefs. Adapt patient education and healthcare plans to align with the cultural and social contexts of the people we serve.
- Medical leadership: Guide clinic operations by managing patient care, coordinating with the broader medical team, and ensuring continuity of care. Serve as a primary resource for medical decision-making and collaborative problem-solving.
- Emergency response: Remain available for emergency calls and urgent situations, responding promptly and compassionately to patient needs. Make informed clinical decisions calmly and effectively, even under pressure in limited-resource settings
- Mentorship and training: Provide ongoing guidance to the volunteer team. Organize educational sessions and collaborative case reviews to foster professional growth and enhance the clinical knowledge of all team members.
- Project involvement: Contribute to or lead initiatives related to research, quality improvement, or program development. Ensure that all projects align with Health & Help’s mission to improve care delivery and community health outcomes.
Skills & Requirements
- Is able to commit to the role for a minimum of 6 months.
- Is available to start the position on June 1, 2026.
- Holds a valid license to practice as a Medical Doctor in their country of origin.
- Has at least 2 years of general clinical experience. A specific medical specialty is not required, but candidates should be confident in providing primary care services, including chronic disease management, pediatric care, and family planning.
- Remains available on-call for emergencies and critical situations outside of regular hours, playing a vital role in ensuring continuous patient care and clinical leadership.
- Leads by example through professionalism, dedication, and accountability, consistently striving to uphold the mission and values of Health & Help.
- Maintains open, clear, and consistent communication with the team, including volunteers, medical staff, and administrative personnel, and addresses questions or concerns in a constructive and professional manner.
We provide
- Monthly stipend: 450 USD
- Location: Chuinahtajuyup, Guatemala. Accommodation is provided in the volunteer house located within the clinic grounds.
- Daily meals, featuring a varied and predominantly vegetarian menu that relies on local and seasonal food availability.
- Pre-departure support, offering guidance and resources to help you safely prepare for your journey and transition to the clinic.
- Start date for the position on June 1, 2026.
- Please note that travel expenses are not covered.
