Board of Directors Member

Job Purpose:

The Board of Directors for Health & Help serves as the governing body responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for the organization’s operations and activities. This includes ensuring that the organization’s mission, vision, and values are upheld, that the organization is effectively managed, and that it remains financially sustainable. Board members are also responsible for providing support to the executive director and staff, and serving as ambassadors for the organization in the community.

As a Board of Directors member, you will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of the organization and ensuring that we continue to make a meaningful impact in the communities we serve.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Attending and actively participating in all board meetings (in person or virtually) and committee meetings as assigned
  • Understand and be committed to the organization’s mission, vision, and values, and be able to communicate them effectively to others
  • Ensure the organization’s resources are effectively and efficiently managed, and that financial and other reporting is accurate and timely
  • Provide guidance and support to the executive director and staff as needed, and assist with fundraising efforts
  • Ensure that the organization is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including those related to non-profit organizations, healthcare, and international operations
  • Serve as an ambassador for the organization in the community and build relationships with key stakeholders
  • Help to recruit and mentor new board members to ensure a diverse and engaged board
  • Advocating for the organization and its mission in the community and beyond

The ideal candidate for this position will have a passion for humanitarian aid work and a deep commitment to making a positive impact in the world.


Required qualifications:

  • Commitment to the organization’s mission, vision, and values
  • Experience serving on nonprofit boards or other leadership roles
  • Familiarity with non-profit governance, financial management, and fundraising
  • Experience in healthcare or international operations is preferred but not required
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other board members, staff, and stakeholders
  • Willingness to devote the necessary time and energy to fulfill the responsibilities of the role

Term:

Board members serve a term of 2 years, with the possibility of re-election for up to 3 terms.


Time Commitment:

Board members are expected to attend all board meetings and committee meetings as assigned. In addition, they should be available for occasional ad-hoc meetings and events as needed. The estimated time commitment is 10h/month.
