Are you passionate about transforming healthcare for underserved communities? Health & Help is looking for a committed and strategic Member of the Board of Directors to help guide our life-changing work in Guatemala. This voluntary leadership role offers you the opportunity to shape our organization’s future, ensure we can continue providing free healthcare to those who need it, and build meaningful partnerships that amplify our impact. As a board member, you’ll provide essential governance, support our fundraising initiatives, and champion our mission alongside a dedicated team of changemakers. If you’re ready to make a lasting impact in global health and want to be part of something truly meaningful, we’d love to have you join our family at Health & Help.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Partner with fellow board members to shape Health & Help Guatemala’s strategic direction, ensuring our initiatives align with our mission of delivering healthcare to underserved communities. Review and guide our strategic planning to maximize impact.
  • Governance & Compliance: Help ensure Health & Help operates with integrity, meeting all legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
  • Mission Champions: Be an advocate for our mission, evaluating programs and policies to ensure they truly serve those who need healthcare. Help us stay focused on what matters: saving and improving lives.
  • Financial Partnership: Work collaboratively with the board to maintain financial health through budget oversight, financial reporting review, and active participation in fundraising efforts. As detailed in our bylaws, board members commit to raising a specified amount annually—this vital work not only supports our programs but also helps build meaningful partnerships with like-minded organizations.
  • Executive Support: Participate in evaluating and supporting both our Executive Director and Country Director, providing constructive feedback and guidance to ensure strong leadership that drives our mission forward.
  • Risk & Resilience: Help identify potential challenges and work with the team to develop strategies that keep Health & Help strong and prepared for unexpected challenges.
  • Partnership Building: Create opportunities for collaboration, partnerships, and community engagement that amplify our impact.

Skills & Requirements

  • Personal Commitment: Demonstrate passion for Health & Help’s mission of delivering healthcare to underserved communities. Commit to a four-year term with active participation in board activities, including semi-annual meetings and additional sessions as needed.
  • Governance Understanding: Comply with Health & Help bylaws and governing policies. Understand that your role focuses on strategic oversight and governance rather than day-to-day operations.
  • Attendance & Participation: Attend board meetings at least twice annually and participate actively in board discussions and decision-making processes.
  • Financial Responsibility: Fulfill annual fundraising requirements as outlined in bylaws. Exercise prudent financial judgment and maintain transparency in all financial matters.
  • Professional Skills: Bring relevant expertise in areas such as finance, healthcare, legal affairs, fundraising, or strategic planning that supports organizational goals.
  • Networking & Advocacy: Actively seek opportunities to connect with potential partners, donors, and stakeholders. Serve as an ambassador for Health & Help’s mission.
  • Ethical Standards: Maintain highest standards of integrity, avoid conflicts of interest, and ensure all actions support the organization’s best interests.
  • Communication Skills: Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication abilities. Provide timely updates and maintain professional relationships with board members, leadership, and stakeholders.
