Ruth’s Guatemala Clinic Fundraising

Hello lovely friends and family! You have heard me talking for months about going to nurse in Latin America and now is your chance to help. Imagine living in a remote area, with a complicated health condition such as diabetes, but without access to the healthcare services and equipment you rely on to keep your condition stable. Health and Help is a non profit organisation who assists people in places where it is difficult or impossible to access basic medical care, and they provide healthcare education to prevent future illness too. They do this through the efforts of their volunteers (me), and donors (it could be you!). In 2022, their clinic in remote Guatemalan village Chuinajtajuyub (where I will be working), improved their medication purchasing process. Medications now come directly from Momostenango -the closest city to the clinic - for a more affordable price. They also set up some video consultations with specialists in psychiatry, rheumatology and endocrinology. In 2022 the clinic saw 4394 patients: 92 soon to be mums had necessary pre-natal examinations and received necessary vitamins they would not have otherwise been able to access, 20 underweight children were examined and they and their families received education and recommendations on proper nutrition, 370 patients with respiratory problems were examined and had treatment plans set up for their condition, 57 women received consultations on family planning and birth control And this is where you come in! I will be working in the Guatemalan Clinic from around the end of June for a couple of months, perhaps longer. Each volunteer is housed and fed at the clinic, in return for their dedication and hard work. Volunteers are required to fundraise a recommended amount of £800 ($1000 US Dollars). This is enough to buy FIFTEEN KILOGRAMS of medication. Imagine the amazing difference that could make to a local community.
